Chuck Reed

(Founder/President)

Chuck Reed has been working at the intersection of music, sound, and production since the 1980s. He began his career in Los Angeles as a roadie, guitar technician and live sound engineer in the city’s punk and rockabilly scenes. He earned certifications in recording engineering, live sound, and studio maintenance in 1984, and eventually moved into studio work — highlighted by assisting Jimmy Iovine and becoming part of the team that helped launch Interscope Records.

Over a 27-year run at Interscope Geffen A&M, Chuck held roles including VP of Studio Operations, Director of A&R, and in-house engineer/producer. His credits include work with a wide range of artists such as U2, Dr. Dre, Eminem, 2Pac, Imagine Dragons, No Doubt, Billie Eilish, Sting, Guns N’ Roses, and many more. He’s produced and/or engineered numerous gold and platinum records, and contributed to three seasons of American Idol as a producer.

Chuck led the restoration of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, a project made possible through a philanthropic grant from Beats by Dre. He continues to serve as a studio and audio consultant to Beats by Dre, Jimmy Iovine and others in the industry.

Sancola Sound has also expanded into podcasting — with shows exceeding 300 million downloads. Chuck won a Webby Award as Executive Producer of Happier with Gretchen Rubin.
